Make the CMS responsive so users can update content or manage their app on any device.
This would be great selling point for silverstripe.
Paul Clarke has begun work on improving the responsiveness of the CMS, initially as part of the bootstrap migration, and designs for further improvements are coming soon.
Stay tuned for design mock-ups!

I have created a interactive mockup for a responsive menu and two different options for how the preview could work. It would be great to get some feedback on those interactions (either here, or directly comment on the mockup). Open to suggestions.
Thanks Paul, In light of this and to reflect the true state of things I'll be updating the status of this suggestion.
Just a quick update. Although there is currently some responsive work planned, an outline as to what that might entail has not been made as yet. Some of current work on the new files area will have more considerations taken to allow for a responsive interface and any new UI patterns will also have these considerations.

please switch to Reactjs
A few things are in progress which will start to make the CMS more responsive:
- TinyMCE is planned to be updated prior to 4.0 which means the main page edit panel will be able to go smaller than the previous 660px width, not sure of how small it will go at this stage though.
- Complete re-development of the files area has begun which will be using React and a CSS framework, as this is implemented we will be considering how this can be best implemented to allow for a responsive future.
- As we are going to start using a CSS framework for the assets area we will start to swap out the front-end for the rest of the CMS. This doesn't mean our main focus is making the CMS fully responsive but it will mean as we replace the code we will making sure the parts we update have that consideration.
Hopefully once this gets going the community will be able to contribute to getting it fully responsive.

Any update on this? A better mobile experience in the CMS would be great for some clients.
